What’s Happening In The World Of Music

And you thought she just appeared at Dollywood… not so… in fact, Dolly Parton just announced she will kick off her first major European tour since the 1970s in Denmark next year.

According to Parton’s publicist, the 60-year-old country singer will begin her eight-stop tour in Horsens, 125 miles west of Copenhagen, on March 7, 2007. From there Parton will continue to Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, England and Scotland before ending the tour April 2 in Dublin, Ireland.

A bit closer to home, Disney announced yesterday that “High School Musical” is hitting the road with a nationwide concert tour featuring stars of the hit TV movie that has grown into a pop-culture phenomenon.

If you don’t have younger children you may not be familiar with the hit. However, if you watch ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” you may recognize cast member Monique Coleman who will take part in the 40-city tour that is scheduled to begin November 30th in San Diego. (Another star of the film, Zac Efron, is working on the movie version of the musical “Hairspray” and will miss the tour.)

According to Disney, the concert will feature songs from the film’s soundtrack, which happens to be the year’s top-selling album so far. Tickets for “High School Musical” concerts go on sale November 4th.

Finally, in what one can only hope is the final chapter of the Madonna adoption saga, the Material Girl is in Chicago today taping an interview with Oprah Winfrey, which will air tomorrow. The award winning talk show host was scheduled to discuss the pop singer’s planned adoption of a 13-month-old boy from the African country of Malawi. It will be Madonna’s first TV interview about the adoption. After reading daily updates from various people involved (and those who just felt the need to fan the flames of controversy) in this adoption case it will be nice to hear what Madonna has to say.
