When It Rains, It Pours

I had noticed it when I first pulled up the driveway a few weeks back. I had hoped it would not get any worse. Not knowing anything much about this thing, I did not panic. The following week it looked worse. Now I panicked. The topic of my interest? My roof. I got my three estimates and immediately knew who I wanted to do the job, the first person who gave me the estimate. Not only was he cheaper, but he had done my roof (a reroof) approximately 16 years prior without any future problems. The second guy talked the other one down. I hate that. He also gave me so much information about roofing that I probably could have done the job myself. As I have stated in a previous article, “I do not want to know”. He lost me somewhere around describing the adhesive that they used on the roof, complete with a brochure on the product information and how many nails he used, what type, and how long the nails were. I wanted to cry when he left. My head was spinning. The third person to give me an estimate was above and beyond in terms of price.

Money? Thank goodness for loans or I would be worse off then “up the creek without a paddle”. I would already be sunk. The following week brought more news, car repairs estimated at approximately $368. This turned into $894 once they took off the tires and saw my hanging brake caliper and subsequent worn brake pads. I said to my repairman as I looked at the bill, “That is not my price!?? You have to be kidding me?” The joke was all on me. A couple of evenings ago my washing machine broke. Where is my angel? Did she leave me? To top it all off, as I was coming back from the laundromat today, I noticed a puddle on my garage floor. “No way”, I said to nobody in particular, as I checked out the puddle. Oil? Brake fluid? I have no clue, but I will find out tomorrow when I take it back to my mechanic. When it rains, it pours.

I am puzzled. I thought all day, “What am I supposed to be learning from all of this?” This will take a while to figure out, but I will in time.
