When You Can’t Change a Situation

There will be trials in your life when you feel that you cannot change anything, and that you must simply struggle through it. While you may not be able to control the circumstances around you, you can control your attitude and they way you react to your situation. During these trials you should remember to look to the Lord for hope, guidance and strength.

It makes a big difference to look at a situation with hope. Hope helps you to find the strength to continue to struggle and it brings you peace during your darkest moments. Finding and focusing on the positive things in your situation can help you to see that the Lord has not abandoned you, even though you may feel trapped by your current situation.

Additionally you should try to improve your relationship with your Heavenly Father, as you spend time studying the scriptures and sincerely praying, you will receive guidance to help you through your current situation. Although you may have to endure it for awhile longer, the Lord can give you the strength to continue.

Although you may not know to what to fix the situation, you can pray for strength. The Lord will help you through the trials. At times like these I think of the followers of Alma who were taken prisoner by the Lamanites for a short time. They still lived in captivity and carried heavy burdens but the Lord helped them to bear up the burdens. They Lord eventually helped them to escape from the Nephites (see Mosiah 24). This story really helps me during my times of trial. If I take a moment to look at my situation, I can see the ways that Lord is helping me through it.

While we may be experience serious trials that last a long time, even for the rest of our lives, we do not ever have to face the trial alone. The Lord will always be there with us. We can also turn to family and friends for support and comfort. If you need help do not be afraid to ask for it. The Lord will bless you as you strive to live the gospel each day.
