Did you have fun with the quiz? Do you find out anything you didn’t know about your spouse? Sometimes a quiz can highlight areas where we are different. Many times it won’t matter if his favorite color is red and yours is blue, except maybe when it comes to decorating.
If you want to paint a room a color he can’t live with or vice versa, then it could create problems you will have to work through. For example a man I knew years ago would not have any green in his house at all. He hated green. Another male friend loathed pink, so his wife never got to use pink in their house.. Others might decide it is okay in small doses like cushions but not for walls or large furniture.
The other place it might matter is in DVDs or movies. I know a couple who will go to separate movies and then meet up afterwards, rather than either of them go to a movie that one of them doesn’t want to see and that they can’t agree on. Mick will often watch DVDs or TV shows he wants to see when I am at choir practice.
That’s what marriage is all about finding ways to live together and make each other happy in big and small decisions. Sometimes it may mean we will have to compromise and do something we may not want to, or go somewhere we don’t like or listen to something we’re not fond of. Other times we may have to agree to disagree and just give each other space to do our own thing for a time and come back refreshed afterwards.
It’s all about making choices and deciding how important the issue is. You need to decide what will best suit you as a couple and your marriage relationship. It also depends how strongly you feel about certain things.
If they don’t feel strongly, they may be happy to give way and let their partner make the decision. But there are some things that affect people so negatively or that they are afraid of that will affect what they do and the decisions that can be made.
