Where to Go for Inspiration

It’s that time of the year again. Time when my local scrapbook supply store starts erecting large posters heralding the joys of scrapbook conventions. I have never been to a scrapbook convention, though I would love to go if I could find someone to sponsor my trip.

I live in a small rural town and the closest thing we get to a major scrapbook convention is store-sponsored crops that are capped at 20 because of the limited size of the venue. I would probably have to drive to Chicago or Minneapolis if I wanted to attend a large national scrapbook convention.

The scrapping mega-parties are a haven for avid and beginner scrappers alike. They typically feature product booths, workshops, classes, crops and row after row of demos. What scrapper wouldn’t want to view the latest and greatest scrapbooking tools and pick the brains of like-minded crafters? Scrapbook conventions are designed to inspired creativity, but the price of admission is steep.

Still, in most cases you get what you pay for. What’s more, can you really put a price tag on getting to mix and mingle with fellow scrappers from around the world? The crops alone would help rev up my creative juices more than I could measure. In addition, I would love to participate in make-n-takes, especially the ones that use new products that fit my particular style of scrapbooking.

So how can get in on the action? It really is quite simple to register for the event. The trick is finding a convention that fits your particular needs. For example, if travel is an issue, you’ll want to find a convention that takes place close to your hometown. Likewise, if you are dying to meet up with certain experts in the field, you might consider attending a convention that has a well-known guest headlining the event. Some of the most popular scrapbooking conventions that take place throughout North America each year are: Great American Scrapbook Conventions, Creating Keepsakes Conventions, Go Scrapping Conventions and Scrapbooks MegaMeet Conventions.
