Who Do You Think You Are

OK, so I wanna know why is it only now that I am hearing about the new NBC show, Who Do You Think You Are? I came across it last week and have it set to record each week on my DVR. I saw my first episode this past Friday, although it’s not the first time the show has aired. Heck, it wasn’t even the first time that particular episode had aired. But despite me being late to discovering it, I am glad I did!

Basically the show helps celebrities (one each episode) discover their genealogy. The episode I watched was with Sarah Jessica Parker. Through her travels to the towns where her ancestors lived, she discovered that she has an ancestor who was a part of the gold rush, as well as one who was accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials.

It was so much fun watching her excitement as she found out these stories. I have shared that same excitement researching my own genealogy. I personally have my own ancestral stories to share: my 6-great grandfather captured and murdered by Indians (his son, my 5-great grandfather was also captured, but managed to escape), and I have reason to believe that my 13-great grandfather was a Mayflower passenger (I look forward to finding the time to confirm this).

Sarah Jessica Parker revealed that her family history has made her feel even more American than she had before. I understand what she means since I have felt the same thing. From finding possible Mayflower passengers to Revolutionary and Civil War veterans in my family tree, I have gained a deeper pride for being an American.

I am looking forward to watching the next episode that is set to record this coming Friday. I can already see that this show is going to quickly become my latest TV series addiction (if it hasn’t already).

Have you seen the show yet? What do you think?
