Witch-tastic Halloween Fun

Pumpkins, candy and witches are staples of any Halloween party, but the latter is not as easy to incorporate into the menu as the former two. Or is it?

The following fun tricks illustrate how you can turn a witch theme into a real Halloween treat:

CHOCOLATE WITCH HATS

Ingredients:

24 chocolate-flavored sugar ice cream cones

24 Oreo cookies

Assorted small Halloween candy, such as M&Ms, Skittles, Reese Pieces, candy corn, etc.

Chocolate ganache

5 tablespoons whipping cream

5 tablespoons light corn syrup

8 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Bring cream and syrup to simmer in a sauce pan then add chocolate chips. Stir to melt.

Pour mixture over cones.

Attach one Oreo to bottom of each cone.

Place cones in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.

Remove cones and use chocolate ganache around the brim of hat and then place small candies on tip of hat or around brim. Use ganache as “glue” to keep candies in place.

Return cone hats to refrigerator for 30 minutes to set before serving.

SIMPLE WITCH’S BREW

Ingredients:

1 (10-ounce) package frozen raspberries, thawed

2 1/2 cups cranberry juice

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin

2 liters ginger ale

2 liters sparkling apple cider

12 candy gummy worms

Directions:

To make a frozen hand to add to your brew: Wash, rinse and dry a non-latex glove.

Turn glove inside out and set aside.

In a large measuring cup, combine the thawed raspberries and cranberry juice.

Pour 2 cups of the raspberry mixture into a small saucepan.

Sprinkle the gelatin over mixture and let stand 2 minutes.

Warm mixture over low heat, stirring constantly, just until gelatin dissolves.

Add mixture back into the reserved raspberry/cranberry juice mixture in the large measuring cup.

Pour raspberry mixture into the inverted glove.

Bind the top of glove and tie securely with kitchen twine.

Freeze until solid.

To serve: Carefully cut glove away from frozen hand. Place frozen hand, palm side up against the side of a large punch bowl.

Add in ginger ale and sparkling cider. Garnish with candy gummy worms.
