No, this is not a tale from Ripley’s Believe It or Not, even though it probably should be. With the divorce rate as high as it is these days, it’s a miracle that people still get married, but dogs! Now I have heard just about everything! Read on, if you dare.
According to Ananova News, two dogs recently married in front of 70 guests in a ceremony that cost $700 dollars. The happy event took place in Clinton, Township, Michigan, and The Detroit Free Press reported that two year old Bobby did indeed marry, three year old Gracie. It further stated that Susan Laurer, 79, owner of the groom, gave Bobby away to Gracie’s owners, neighbors Frank and Cyndi Parise. Of the occasion, she said, “Bobby loved Gracie at first sight. Now they play together, walk together and fight together” (like any other married couple).
To add to this tale, which already stretches credibility, Bobby wore a top hat, black tuxedo and red bow-tie, while Gracie sauntered down the aisle in a puffy, white, Non-Paris creation gown, her nails painted pink for this special occasion.
Pastor Joseph DeRose of Evangel Christian Church in Roseville sanctified the proceedings by claiming, “We are gathered here today to celebrate the joining of paws of Bobbie and Gracie on this beautiful Sunday.”
And then came the solemn moment:
“Now I introduce to you, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby and Gracie Laurer.”
During the reception that followed (I kid you not) the newlyweds dug into a two-tiered, bone-shaped cake with a pink heart in the center. No mention was made of honeymoon plans at the time of this writing. (Perhaps they are keeping it a secret.)
