Women and Weight Loss

Is there an ideal weight for women, as well as a perfect way to lose extra pounds? Those questions are good but with several answers. Some people believe that the whole process of weight loss and the amount of weight a person should lose can only be calculated by the number of calories consumed.

Well, a calorie is a scientific term that has to do with the amount of heat required to raise one gram of water by one degree Celsius but when you talk about weight loss, calories are associated with the amount of food being consumed. For the goal of losing weight and staying healthy, a calorie is how you measure the energy your body gets from the fuel that we call food.

In addition, you want to think about metabolic rate, or how much fuel the body burns to work properly while you are at rest. Understand that the body burns different amounts of fuel depending on whether you are at rest or active. After all, your body needs a basic amount of fuel to keep the heart, lungs, and other organs in operation. Beyond that, the amount of energy used depends on the activity you take part in, whether it is walking, running, working, shopping, cooking, etc.

When we talk about weight loss, two primary pieces of the puzzle include the fuel, which is food put into your body, and then energy generated, which is fuel used by activity. Finding the right balance in all this is the key to weight loss, according to most experts. Therefore, the question is asked, “How do we go about this process of losing weight?” Again, the answer is not simple in that you have so many different expert opinions.

For instance, we do know that exercise is critical to weight loss. Activities such as tennis, walking, Tae Bo, swimming, and bike riding are all excellent means of getting the body to burn calories consumed. Another important key to weight loss is losing it gradually. I lost 62 pounds, which took me about one year. While that might sound like a long time, I have kept it off and actually eat just about anything I want within reason. I do weigh myself daily so if I see one to two pounds creeping back up, I immediately step up the activity and cut down on food intake.
