Words to Live By

Oprah Winfrey once said: “Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.”

I’m pretty sure she was looking at her BFF Gayle King when she uttered those now famous words.

Then again, perhaps, she was looking directly into the camera while Gayle giggled on the side.

Regardless, no truer words have been said, which is why my own BFF included the quote in the “Friends Forever” scrapbook she presented to me the day I left for college.

Another one of our favorite friend-themed quotes is: “Since there is nothing so well worth having as friends, never lose a chance to make them.” – Francesco Guicciardini.

My pal added the line to a layout which featured photos of us at a high school leadership camp. It was only the second time in my life sleeping in a tent and the pictures documenting the moment are hilarious to say the least.

Scrapbooking quotes are like gold to me. Not only are they useful when you are unsure of what else to add to a page design, but when paired with appropriate pictures the famous words can take on a life of their own.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of using quotes as page titles unless they are very succinct. Rather, I prefer to write quotes along the border of a photo frame or place them strategically between other embellishments.

If you don’t want to free hand a quote on your layout, you have the option of purchasing pre-made ones. There are dozens of scrapbook companies that sell stickers, rub-ons, chipboard, vellum quotes. There are even decorative patterned paper with scrapbook quotes, phrases, and sayings that can be used to spice up a page design. Just be careful about how many you cram onto a single page. You don’t want to go quote crazy otherwise you end up overpowering the page and your photos and other embellishments will get lost in a jumble of words.
