Work Those Words

Each month my local scrapbook shop sponsors a display which customers can win by entering their names in a little box. This month, in honor of spring break, the display features a bunch of Disney-related books and embellishments. Needless to say, even if you aren’t planning a spring break vacation to the Magic Kingdom, the contest is still worth entering, as you could easily use the Disney accessories to spice up a baby scrapbook or hold on to the items and use them when you eventually take a trip to a Disney theme park.

We don’t plan to visit Disney for another couple of years, but I still entered the contest because my daughter is a huge Donald the Duck and Nemo fan. If I win I plan to use some of the Nemo stickers on a layout I am working on with photos from our recent trip to Hawaii. The other items I have my eye on are the rub on quotes that are part of the prize package.

A few words can make a huge impact on a page design if used properly. If your own kids are not good for a few profound words or funny zingers, then use sayings from well-known people or characters. For example, the quotes used in the prize display come from Disney characters, but they don’t necessarily need to be used exclusively in a Disney-themed layout.

Here are a few universal quotes that could easily be incorporated in a variety of page designs:

“A dream is a wish your heart makes.” Cinderella

“The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” The Emperor

“Listen with your heart; you will understand.” Pocahontas

“The past can hurt. You can either run from it or learn from it.” The Lion King

“A laugh can be a very powerful thing. Sometimes in life it’s the only weapon we’ve got.” Roger, in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

What are some of your favorite quotes?
