World’s Largest Photo Album

I don’t own it, but with the amount of photos I take on a weekly basis I certainly could. Recently, I went online looking to purchase a massive photo album. I wanted to buy the largest album possible. That’s when I discovered the world’s largest photo album was not for sale… but it does exist.

In fact, the record-breaking album measures 9 feet wide by 12 feet tall and reportedly requires two people to turn each page. And as you might have already deduced it was created by a company looking for a little positive PR. Last year Dodge broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest photo album.

The massive album was presented at a scrapbookers’ convention in Orlando, Florida, and was used to promote the car manufacturer’s 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, featuring the exclusive Swivel ‘n Go seating system that supposedly allows scrapbookers to “scrap ‘n go.”

In any event, the more I researched this gigantic album the more disappointed I got. I was looking for an album that could hold at least a couple thousand pictures between two covers. (Most standard albums provide space for 200 4×6 prints). Dodge’s album gained its spot in the record books because of its massive size, not for the amount of photos it could hold. In fact, Dodge’s photo album only contains 20 pages. But even so it trumped the previous record, which was set in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and measured 3.9 feet wide by 7.8 feet tall. The event in Orlando allowed scrapbookers to participate in a 72-hour scrap-a-thon, to help “scrap” the record-breaking album by adding their own unique touches using oversized embellishments such as ribbons, stickers, buttons and more.

I mean no disrespect to the folks at Dodge, but this is not my idea of a world-record breaking photo album. When someone comes up with a way to cram thousands of pictures in a single album without compromising the integrity of the photos or creating a bulge that makes it impossible to fit into a standard bookshelf or causing the album to rip at the seams, then I’ll consider putting it the world’s best. Better yet, I’ll buy stock in the company and purchase one for all of my friends.
