Tis the season to create “Year in Review” scrapbook layouts. I am a sucker for these types of pages, as I often have so many photos and mementos that it is nearly impossible for me to fit all I want in the original layout, so I hold on to certain items and use them in year in review page designs.
If you don’t have many photos leftover from previous layouts, then consider making a smaller year in review photo collage and adding it to your page. It’s a great way to use up extra pictures while offering another glance at fun activities and accomplishments of the year.
If you have a ton of leftover photos, then consider creating a mini-album with them and attaching it to a larger layout. Since I have so many photos to work with, I usually bypass this option and make an entire 12×12 book and title it “Year in Review.” The book features a one or two-page layout for each month, then if there are leftover pages, I create a time capsule.
Time capsule techniques are traditionally used in New Year’s layouts, but they can easily be used to enhance year in review designs as well. To create a scrapbook time capsule simply cut-out headlines of important news events from the past year. If you don’t have access to an authentic newspaper, simply print out headlines obtained from the Internet. Other items to use in the time capsule include:
Receipts: Add in a few receipts from common household staples, such as bread, milk and soup.
Postcards: Feature some postcards from family vacations that were taken during the year you are preserving.
Kids’ Artwork: Don’t forget to include drawings or homemade cards done by your children or grandchildren. These pieces of memorabilia capture present life and will make for a special keepsake, especially in the years to come.
