Yoga Supplies: Yoga Toe Socks

In most cases, yoga is practiced in bare feet. However, if you feet get cold or sweaty, you may want to wear socks. Now you can with yoga socks. Yoga socks are specially designed socks with non slip soles that keep the feet warm while you are practicing yoga.

The non slip sole will keep you steady in the asanas, so you won’t lose your footing and fall during your practice. The non slip soles provides improved control and balance in the poses. In addition, the use of the socks is a good alternative, if you are concerned about hygiene.

Each type of yoga sock has a different non slip bottom. Some brands have a bottom that has raised dots, similar to what you would find on non slip baby socks. Others have a sticky outline of a foot on the bottom of the sock. This works to grip the mat and improve balance in the asanas.

There may be additional benefits to using yoga socks. These socks have separate places for each toe similar to fingers in a glove. When the toes are separated in the socks, flexibility and strength in the foot muscles is improved.

In addition to staying in control and balanced in the pose, the socks help with foot alignment. Some brands, such as Toe Sox, have a colored strip on the front of the sock that can be used as a visual cue to help you align your foot in the proper position for various poses.

Most yoga socks are made with a natural, breathable material, usually cotton. Some are a blend of cotton and spandex. Because yoga apparel is often environmentally friendly, some brands are made with organic cotton. The socks are available in a range of sizes and colors, so you can find something that will fit your needs and your feet.
