You Don’t Have To Be A Celebrity To Have Skin Like One

I’ve written about trendy beauty products in previous blogs, but this product is one I can see myself stocking up on. Fashion magazines are full of ads for beauty products that claim to revitalize your skin or minimize wrinkles, blah, blah, blah. What I need is help for the skin on my hands (and cheeks), which really take a beating this time of year. Each fall/early winter I convince myself that I can get away with not wearing gloves, only to pay for my mistake later with cracked and bleeding skin.

Chances are you may have experienced the same type of pain (especially if you live in a state that gets hit hard by frigid temps and you leave home gloveless). Like me you may have a makeup drawer full of skin products that claim to alleviate dryness, but work with minimum success. Now experts are recommending products made with something new for people with stubborn dry skin.

The skin products (which include serums, sprays, and creams) are made with thermal water from heated springs. Dermatologists say it’s nutrient enriched water that actually starts as tiny droplets of rain, which run off and basically spend 30, 40 years underground in the earth, picking up many trace minerals and elements as they go. When the water comes back to the surface it’s loaded with magnesium, calcium, iron, and zinc. And studies have shown that thermal water isn’t just good for dry skin… it can also relieve more serious skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. Dermatologists also point out that by restoring the missing minerals and the different elements in the skin, you help to maintain the barrier or protective function that the skin has.

There are several brands available. For example, the La Roche Posay line claims to be rich in selenium, which experts say is very helpful as an anti-inflammatory agent. While the Vichy products are very high in sodium bicarbonate, which is said to be really soothing to the skin. Prices for these products range from $10 to $30.
