One fun activity to consider planning for your Young Men is a video game night. This could be something that you work together for, everyone bringing their scriptures for a certain period of time or the troop passing off a certain number of merit badges. This could also be a camp out, but you would need to make sure that the guidelines are still being followed. This activity is a great way to reach out to those boys that really are not interested in scouting. Here are five ideas for making the activity successful
1) You need to set a standard for the games that you will allow to be brought to the party. It may be safest to only allow games rated E. Since this is a church activity, you should make sure that you do not have anything offensive in it.
2) This works better as a weekend night activity. This will allow the boys more time to play and talk. You could start the activity at five or six and go until ten or eleven. It would be nice to provide dinner and snacks for everyone.
3) Another thing that makes this fun is to have several gaming systems set up for the boys to play with. You could do this activity in the gym with systems throughout or you could plan it in a larger home. You may ask the boys to bring their system.
4) You may want to rent some of the party video games that allow for several players at once. This allows the boys to interact with each other and have fun. If all the games you have are one player, it can become boring quickly.
5) You should also have something else for the boys to do. This can vary according to your boys’ interests. You could do interviews or play basketball. While some boys could sit and play video games for hours, others will want something else to do after awhile.
