Yummy Ham Glaze for a Small Ham

The good quality ham was on sale this week at our local grocery store, so I picked up a small one for one of our meals this week. I wanted to give it some flavor with a ham glaze. Most recipes, unfortunately result in enough glaze for a large ham, one that can feed the entire family for three nights. Instead, I wanted to still be able to enjoy the flavor of a glaze, without having a gallon of glaze left over, using partial ingredients, such as a quarter of a can of pineapple juice, or being forced to purchase and cook an overly large ham.

The following recipe will work for a two-pound ham. You can, of course, scale the recipe up for a larger ham.

Here is a yummy brown sugar mustard glaze that worked well for us. It gave the ham plenty of flavor without overpowering it. Be sure to score the ham to allow the glaze to penetrate deep into the ham for the best flavor.

This recipe will work for a two- to three-pound ham.

Ingredients:

2-pound ham

1/3 cup water

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1/4 cup prepared mustard

2 tablespoons white wine vinegar

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Place the ham in a baking dish or roasting pan. Add 1/3 cup of water to the bottom of the pan. This is an important step. Combine the sugar, mustard and vinegar and brush it over the ham. Be generous. Sprinkle ground cloves on top of the ham. Bake the ham in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes (15 minutes per pound) until heated through.

Allow the ham to rest for five minutes and then slice or dice as your meal requires. Enjoy!
