Two Tips for DIY Fall Decor

Have fun this fall by creating your DIY own autumn themed decorations. Use these two tips. Try these easy tips!

Have fun this fall by creating your own autumn-themed decorations. If the final product doesn’t excite you, the money you save handcrafting your seasonal masterpieces certainly will. However, if you are not exactly a Martha Stewart prodigy, but want to take a stab at making affordable fall decor, consider these simple starters:

Twig Candles: Take a stroll around your neighborhood or a local park and collect small twigs. You will also need a medium to large size candle in a glass holder, scissors, glue and twine. To make the decorative candles, cut the twigs to three-inch lengths. Next, stand the twigs upright and glue them in a vertical row around the candle holder. Finally, tie twine around the center of the holder to add extra support for the twigs and provide an eye-pleasing embellishment. You can craft several of these candles and display them as a group or place them individually around your home with mini pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn.

DIY Scarecrow: This is a fun craft to make with kids. To create your own scarecrow you will need two long wooden stakes, a hammer, masking tape, old towels or rags, a brown paper bag, old clothes and a hat. Hammer one of the stakes into the ground. Use the masking tape to adhere the other stake to form a cross shape. Next, have your children stuff old towels or rags into the brown paper bag, and then tape shut. This is the scarecrow’s head. Your kids can draw a face on the bag with markers if they wish. When they are done, tape the bag to the top of the vertical stake. Then, tape the old towels and rags to the naked stakes to create the arms, legs and torso of the scarecrow. Finally, dress the scarecrow in the old clothes and hat and embellish with pumpkins and bales of hay.
