Bridal Fashion Week—How To Look Like A Disney Princess Bride

Here we go again. The Big Apple is hunkering down for yet another Fashion Week (to read my series on Fashion Week 2007 click here). But this time designers are catering to a certain clientele—brides-to-be.

Bridal Fashion Week kicks off in Manhattan on Sunday, but some fashion editors are already offering their picks on what may prove to be runway standouts.

If you have always dreamed of looking like a princess on your wedding day then you are in luck… especially if the princess you’ve dreamt of looking like is from a Disney movie.

Oh, no they didn’t! Oh, YES they did! The Walt Disney Co.’s synergy has spilled over into the world of bridal fashion. According to Disney execs, the company has teamed with designer Kirstie Kelly to create a collection of gowns inspired by popular Disney princess characters, including Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” Belle from “Beauty and The Beast” and Jasmine from “Aladdin.”

Lest you think you’ll be floating down the aisle in an oversized toddler’s dress-up costume—-think again. According to Kelly, the gowns don’t look like they are straight from the animated movies. Rather, she says, “the designs attempt to channel the personality of each princess in terms suitable for a real-life, modern woman.”

Translation: there is a princess-themed gown for all types of brides-to-be. For example, Kelly says the “Cinderella” dress is tailored to the classic glamour bride; while “Sleeping Beauty” is more suited for the pretty romance bride; “Snow” White is sweet elegance; “Ariel” is more sexy; “Belle” is sophisticated; and “Jasmine” is bohemian chic.

Kelly says if you are planning a tropical destination wedding you’re better off sticking with “Ariel” or “Jasmine,” but if you’re having a huge church wedding with a massive ballroom reception, you’re definitely better off choosing the “Cinderella” gown.

Disney executives say you can look for the gowns at bridal salons with a price tag between $1,100-$3,400.

If you’ve found Prince Charming and are looking to wed in a fairy tale gown—these Disney duds may be the way to go.

Would you consider walking down the aisle in a Disney Princess gown?
