Capturing Precious Moments of Your Newborn

Newborn babies are precious. They are small, lovable bundles of joy. However, they do not stay small for very long though. Babies grow quickly and their looks change a good bit during the first few months of life. That’s why it is especially important that you capture those precious baby moments when you can.

Grab your camera and your camcorder. You will want to use both if you have them available. Video clips of your baby will capture more, but photos are important as well. I’ve always heard that a picture speaks 1,000 words and I believe that.

You may not think that a 5-minute video of a sleeping newborn would be worth recording. You would, however, appreciate it years down the road when you’ve forgotten just how precious your newborn baby was lying in the crib, sleeping soundly.

Newborn babies sleep most of the time. Sleeping is something you do want to capture in photographs and video clips. It is one of the natural and precious moments of newborn life. This is why it is important to capture the moment while you can.

Props are not important when it comes to capturing precious moments of your newborn baby. You may want to put a teddy bear in the photo that you plan to keep for years to come. This would show the size of the baby in relation to the teddy bear. You could continue placing the teddy bear in photos as the child grows. Too many props, however, take away from the focus of your photo: your baby.

Think about the things that won’t last long. This will help you determine what moments you’ll want to capture. My son came home from the hospital with a 2-ounce bottle. I knew that he wouldn’t be using it for long so I made sure to get a photo of him drinking from that bottle. I also kept the bottle in his keepsake box.

There are several moments that are worth capturing while your baby is a newborn, including photos with grandparents, siblings and other relatives. Don’t forget to hand the camera or camcorder over to someone else, so they can shoot you holding your baby. A common mistake that parents make is that they are always behind the camera and not often in the photo themselves.

Regardless of what you decide is important to capture, you’ll appreciate the photographs and video clips for years to come. Newborns grow fast. Savor each moment with your baby and capture those precious moments because they truly will last a lifetime.
