The Bath Time Circus

Giving my kids baths has always been a fun experience when they are babies. They love to splash and kick, the warm water soothes them, and my babies have all loved bath time. But, recently my little guy has become Trouble with a capital “T” at bath time. It is driving me a little crazy. Gone are the days when he would just lay in the water, kick his legs and smile up at me happily. Now, he is a crazy man all over the place. He wants toys to entertain him (understandable since he sees his older siblings with them) … Continue reading

Uh Oh! Mom Cut My Hair!

My babies have always had fine, wispy hair. My daughter was practically bald until she was about 2. I longed for ponytails and braids, but instead, what we had was a sad looking mullet growing. It was not pretty. Finally, after a lot of grief from my sisters (one of whom is a hairstylist) I was talked into cutting off that cute little mullet. I didn’t regret it. And, it looked a lot better, even though she had less hair. My third is now 10 months old, and has more hair than any of my other kids have had at … Continue reading

Things You Just Get Over With Another Baby

I just added baby number 3 to my bunch. It’s been a whirlwind the past 3 1/2 months as we all get used to this new bundle, and as I, the mama, get used to having three kids!! It seems like so many people to raise. And, to some it is, but to other Moms, my little trio of children probably doesn’t seem like any trouble at all. I love this picture of my three little ones. It’s perfection in my mind. It’s real motherhood. It was 10 am and we were all still in PJs and baby brother was … Continue reading

Go With It.

One thing that every mother should prepare for is the unexpected. I hate the unexpected. I am a schedule abiding mom, and like order, and structure in my life. But, the truth is, just about everyday, something un-expected happens when you have a baby. Whether it be sickness, or crankiness, or your baby surprising you when he learns something new, there is always something! So, moms-to-be: beware! But, how do you prepare for the unexpected? Isn’t that pretty close to impossible? I’m still learning as I go. But, like every Mom, I try to think of everything. I think, “Will … Continue reading

Why I’m Losing the Mom Hair

Get this: the week I got pregnant, I got a sudden impulse to walk over to a salon during my lunch hour and chop off four inches of my long hair. Granted, I needed a trim, but looking back I’m not sure such a drastic cut was necessary. When I found out I was pregnant a week or two later, I decided I might as well take that hair cut once step further and get a “hot mom haircut.” That was the exact phrase I used to describe the hair I was going for while talking to my stylist. In … Continue reading

Loud Babies

I have definitely experienced the humiliation of a public meltdown courtesy of my dear toddler. We were at the fair and he had a monumental fit when we left. I had to push him in the stroller through a crowded parking lot and down a busy street while he shrieked like he was being eaten alive. I didn’t have any options but to continue pushing him to the car. Sometimes babies are loud for other reasons, however. Even the happiest babies can make a commotion in public. What is a parent to do? Your first instinct might be to simply … Continue reading

Thoughts on Dressing Baby

Isn’t dressing up your little one a blast? Every outfit looks adorable when it’s a foot long. There are no rules when it comes to dressing your baby, either. Do you want your baby dressed up like a cowboy? That’s okay! Will she wear her princess pajamas to daycare? Babies can wear jammies whenever they want; no one minds. Shoes are adorable, but always optional for non-walkers. The only requirement for baby clothes is that they are soft on baby’s sensitive skin. Some of the baby clothes on the racks these days are so soft, I wish I could wear … Continue reading

Ready… Aim… Poop!

“Ready, aim, fire!” I’m convinced that if my daughter could talk, she’d be saying that phrase every time I change her diaper. During her week-long stay in the hospital, she successfully pooped on my mom, my husband, the nurses, and me. She’s a pro at fooling people into thinking she’s done pooping. She’ll let out a bunch of grunts, accomplish a few good poop explosions, and everything will be calm for quite awhile. “Time to change her diaper,” we’d all think. The unsuspecting victim would calmly slide a new diaper underneath her, undo the dirty diaper, and get ready to … Continue reading

Babies in Cars

Two interesting stories in the news this weekend: both involving babies and cars and both with a happy ending! The first story I find particularly interesting due to the fact that it happened in Wisconsin’s state capital and I have family that lives in that area. I hope they aren’t in the habit of leaving their babies in a running parked car. That is what one mother did when she stopped at home to get some food and water in between errands. Someone decided that an unlocked, running car was too easy of a target to pass by, hopped in … Continue reading

You Should Be Giving Your Baby Soda!

This is so bizarre and unbelievable I just had to write about it. I try diligently to make sure that my kids get their five servings of fruits and veggies a day. I do allow sugar, but generally it’s with stuff that has been homemade, and as you probably already know, I’m good at sneaking fruits and vegetables into places where you would never think fruits and vegetables could go. (Whole wheat brownies with spinach anyone?) Never, never do I allow soda. In our family, it’s actually a rite of passage that on one’s 8th birthday, they are allowed to … Continue reading
