New Events at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

If you’ve ever been to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party — Walt Disney World’s tickets-only, after-hours, month-long Christmas bash — then you think you’ve seen it all.  While that’s not entirely untrue – most of the major elements of the party don’t change from year to year – visitors in 2012 can expect to see something a little bit different this year.  Disney Parks site Inside the Magic has, well, the insider’s details on the new things you can expect to see at this year’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Of course the biggest thing on everyone’s minds is the brand new Fantasyland … Continue reading

Finding the New Fantasyland

As if it thinks it wasn’t getting enough buzz already, Disney World execs are trying to up the hype surrounding the Fantasyland expansion. They’ve launched a website – Finding Fantasyland – to increase both the expansion’s mystique and guests’ interactivity with the wait. The site contains a mysterious poem: “A fantastical land exists, a curse hides it from our view. A hero is needed to break the spell, that hero could be you.” The only other hint about what is going on is a colorful map of the upcoming Fantasyland. It gives blurbs about each of the new parts – … Continue reading

Magic Kingdom to Serve Beer, Wine

A bar inside the Dolphin Resort at Disney World Last week the official Disney Parks blog revealed a detail about the Be Our Guest Restaurant in the new Fantasyland expansion, one that breaks a tradition held by the Magic Kingdom since its inception: Be Our Guest will serve alcohol. The decision came when Walt Disney World execs contemplated the theme of the restaurant. In keeping with the setting of “Beauty and the Beast,” the film on which the restaurant is based, execs wanted to offer the finest French cuisine. Part of the French dining experience is to serve alcohol, so … Continue reading

A Beastly Glimpse Inside Disney’s Enchanted Forest

Beast’s Castle, still under construction The official Disney Parks blog has posted a ton of videos lately about the Enchanted Forest section of the new Fantasyland expansion. Given that that’s the area that will feature “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast,” I can’t resist highlighting them. Most of the recent sneak peeks have all been about the latter. The earliest videos all previewed the Be Our Guest restaurant. If you’d like to have a meal in the world of “Beauty and the Beast,” this restaurant will be for you. It’ll open with three dining rooms in the middle … Continue reading

Fantasyland Expansion Opening Dates

It’s 2012: where’s the new Fantasyland? Three years ago when I first read about all of Disney World’s planned expansions for the Magic Kingdom, I was so excited that for a moment I could close my eyes and almost imagine being there. That is the Disney World I always imagined as a child, and I only have to wait for three years, and there it’ll be. Well, we’re halfway through 2012 now, but it seems like little has happened. The biggest expansion-related news to come out of a Disney Park has been about “Cars Land” out in Anaheim. We all … Continue reading

Fantasyland Expansion Update

Since I first wrote about the 2012 Fantasyland expansion Disney World has released more information about the upcoming changes to the park. Construction has officially begun, but now that the expansion is becoming reality, we’re learning that not all of the original plans for the new Fantasyland will come to fruition. The Orlando Sentinel has the latest details about the transformation currently happening right now in the Magic Kingdom. While the expansion still revolves around the Disney Princess theme, their section won’t be as elaborate as originally planned. Instead of Cinderella, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Snow White, Belle, and Ariel each … Continue reading

Fantasyland Expansion in Progress

Recently Disney announced the largest expansion of Walt Disney World’s Fantasyland in the history of the Magic Kingdom. The new Fantasyland is expected to open in 2012, over 40 years after the debut of Disney World in Orlando. Included in the expansion is a realm for many of the famous Disney Princesses: Ariel, Belle, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), and Cinderella. I know that I’ve been down on the Disney Princess theme recently, but I do love the characters and the fantasy they imbue. If ever there were an appropriate time and place for reveling in fairy tales, Disney World is it. … Continue reading

Closed for Renovations

The Haunted Mansion is closed – not for good thankfully, but it is closed for the next three months to undergo its first major overhaul. Visitors heading to Disney World this summer will likely be disappointed because the Haunted Mansion remains one of the most popular attractions because of both its humor and it’s special effects. The overhaul should be complete about mid-September. If you’re wondering why couldn’t they wait for the off-season to close the ride? Well, according to the numbers, off-season is seeing almost as many visitors as the summer season – so the decision was made to … Continue reading

Disney’s Special Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is a special holiday here in the United States. It’s a day of patriotism, history, fireworks, beaches, picnics and camaraderie. It’s a day when all Americans enjoy America in all her forms – from her capitalistic ventures to her militaristic achievements and so much more. Disney, in many ways, represents a large slice of Americana and so it’s appropriate that their Fourth of July celebrations seem pretty exciting. This year, the Mouse will be doing something a bit different. The forecourt of Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom, Disney World Orlando will be the scene for … Continue reading

Reservations Available for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Would your little one enjoy being transformed into a prince or a princess? Most of our little ones would enjoy that. Inside Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, you will find a second Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique opening this September. There’s already one opened in Downtown Disney’s Marketplace. Featuring a magical garden setting, The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom is based on the scene in the Cinderella film where Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother transforms her outfit into the brilliant silver and white ball gown. The shop is run by Fairy Godmothers-in-Training and at the end of each princess … Continue reading
