Creating a Mural On Your Wall

Every time I watch one of my favorite movies, I’m drawn into the animation. It’s the beauty of the fields that gets me. Even though they’re animated, a lush field of blooming flowers backed by mountains seems like the perfect place for me to drift off for a nap. Of course, I can’t travel into the movie, although it would be nice. However, if I ever had a mural on my wall, it would be of a field of lushly-blooming flowers. So restful! When my daughter was one, I painted a mural on her wall. Use a slide projector or … Continue reading

Create a Memory Quilt with Outgrown Kids Clothes

Just now, I was hanging up skirts in my daughter’s closet after ironing them. I looked in, and there it was: the most perfect little turquoise sweater. And it’s getting too small. Maybe it’s more intense when you have one child, but I’m sure that anyone who’s moved on from a child-raising stage gets a little weepy at having to pass on a particular beloved item of children’s clothing. This one child just happens to be my first and last. When she grows out of clothes, we tend to pass them on to the neighbours up the road who have … Continue reading

Capturing Enormous Quantities of Stuffies

We really, really, really don’t need any more stuffies in our house. I don’t know about you, but when my daughter was born I swore that I was not, most certainly not going to be one of those parents with a kid who had a room full of stuffed animals. Oh no, not me. My child was going to have just a few stuffed animals of the highest quality, hand sewn and hand picked. Oh yes, I was a stuffie snob. Now I stagger into her room where she has two cribs full of the things. They’re doll cribs, granted, … Continue reading

Trunk or Treat Time

This coming Saturday, my family and I will be participating in our church’s annual Trunk or Treat event. This is our second year doing it. Along with the trunks to treat from, there will be free food, music, games, free photos and more. I can’t wait. In case you aren’t familiar with what a Trunk or Treat is, let me explain. Trunkers bring a car or other vehicle and decorate it. The Treaters go around to the various trunks and collect their candy and treats. It is safer than going to unfamiliar houses, and it is a lot of fun. … Continue reading

Autumn

I have to come to grips that summer is over. Summer is my favorite season. I love the sun and the heat. We’ve had few cold days so far this fall, but enough for me to break out the jeans and long sleeves. I need to look through Jessie’s jammies from last year to see if she has any that would fit her now. I went through the box of 12-month clothes to find footie jammies for Emily. We have not turned the heat on in the house yet nor have I stopped wearing sandals. The colors are starting to … Continue reading
