FHE For Small Children-The Prexistence

This past Sunday, my 4 year old gave his very first talk in primary. I was so proud of him. I helped him prepare his talk by asking him a series of questions about what he knew about the earth since the theme was, “Heavenly Father created the Earth for His children”. He told me things like it is really big. It is in space. It has lots of different countries. It was really fun to find out what he knew about earth. I asked him what his favorite thing to do on earth was, and he replied, “Eat!” Very … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Visiting a Retirement Home

One of the songs we have been learning in the primary program this year is Nephi’s courage. I just love this primary song, and honestly, it gets stuck in my head after every single Sunday. The chorus, “I will go. I will do. The things the Lord commands. I Know the Lord provides a way, He wants me to obey” is very catchy. So, we had a special family home evening at a local retirement home that is in our ward boundaries. Members of our ward take turns doing a FHE with them. Our little family has been asked a … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Strengthening our Family

I love when simple family home evenings make the best ones. That is my goal by sharing this FHE with Small Children series as often as possible. This past Monday night, we had a family home evening where my kids really listened, the lesson was short, and everyone got to participate. We started out talking about our own family. I asked my kids the following questions: Who is in our family? Do you think we have a happy family? Do we want to make our family stronger? I then told them about The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Since … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Pioneer Day

So, Sunday, I had the opportunity to teach sharing time in my ward. The topic was honesty, yet with pioneer day being two days away, I wanted to do something to talk about the pioneers too. I of course went to sugardoodle to look for ideas and I came across a great one to tell stories about pioneer children that were being honest. It was a great lesson. You can find that link here. The kids loved this idea so much that I thought it would make a great FHE lesson too. I decided to make a campfire for our … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Showing Support

This past week, we had a good and simple family home evening lesson. This time, we used the Friend magazine for our story. I used this one. The beauty of this little story is that it fit my kids perfectly because it was about an older sister and a younger brother. So, while I was reading it to them, I substituted my kids names for the kids in the story. They always love it when I do that, and I have found that it helps them pay more attention too! The story was all about an older sister who was … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Understanding Needs

My husband did a great family home evening this week with our kids. It was simple, and short, with a little activity that they enjoyed. He first began by sharing the golden rule scripture. It can be found in multiple books of the bible, but we used the one in Matthew 7:12. “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” We talked about what the golden rule meant. Then my husband asked them if they thought Heavenly Father knew what they needed. … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Setting Goals

Have you ever thought about teaching your little ones about setting goals? I don’t think I ever really learned the value of goal setting until I became a missionary. I’m sure in my life up until that point, I had set goals and achieved them, but until my mission, I didn’t appreciate how setting goals can be life changing. We decided to have a family home evening with our little ones on how to set goals. It was a VERY simple lesson. We have been working with our oldest daughter, who is almost 6, on encouraging her to stop sucking … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Testimonies

On Sunday, we had a rare event in our ward. Three children bore their testimonies. In a ward with only about 15 children in it, this does not happen very often. It started me thinking and wondering if my children had heard the word testimony and if they knew what it meant. It made me wonder if they had one of their own? Remember, they are just 3 and 5 years old. So, I started off by reading a scriptures on testimony in D&C. I asked them if they had heard that word, and they had. But, when I asked … Continue reading

An FHE for Small Children- Hidden Treasure

Looking for ideas for family home evening for my little children with even smaller attention spans can be challenging. But, this week, we had a fun one. My 3-year old likes pirates, and the lesson was on finding treasure. The original idea can be found here. My 5 year old defined treasure as “something really cool that you find”. I told her that was right! We talked about how a treasure can be anything that is really special. We then talked about our purpose for coming to earth. They needed a little help, but eventually gave the right answers. To … Continue reading

An FHE For Small Children- Brother of Jared

Lately, we have gotten into the habit of having regular family home evenings. It’s always been a goal of mine as a parent, and I’m proud to say that we are finally implementing it on a regular basis! Yay! So, I thought I would start a series every Monday to share how we adapt very very simple family home evenings to our little family of 5. A 5 year old, a 2 year old, and a baby on the way. My husband and I take turns preparing family home evenings. He gave one recently that my kids LOVED. It was … Continue reading
