Inspiration on the Word of Wisdom

I have been thinking about the word of wisdom a lot lately. In primary last week, I taught a lesson on the word of wisdom. It was fun, but I have also been thinking about how maybe I was just scraping the surface of what that revelation is all about. I feel like over the past couple of years, my life has been confusing when it comes to food. I have had to make several changes in my diet to breastfeed my children who have allergies and food intolerances. That made me aware. I have watched documentaries that changed both … Continue reading

LDS Holistic Living Conference

Did you know about the LDS Holisitic Living Conference? I didn’t either until last year when a friend of mine told me about it, and now, it is coming up again this weekend. I’m hoping I get the opportunity to go. If not this year, then definitely next year. What is it all about? Well, it is a one day conference dedicated to teaching members of the church about living healthier lives, both physically and spiritually. While the church does not officially endorse this conference, it is full of good information for any member of the church that wants to … Continue reading

Addiction Recovery Program is Now Online

The church has recently launched a new portion of its website for the addiction recovery program. I, myself, have never attended these meetings. I have always thought that it was just for those who suffered from addiction to pornography or substance abuse. But, in fact, this program is much more than that. If you are thinking that it might be like your typical AA meeting, think again. The meetings are run in a loving, hope filled environment. No one is expected to confess their sins to a large group of people, and in fact, you don’t even have to be … Continue reading

Pot Luck Wake Up Call

I’ve been a Mormon my whole life, and therefore, I know what a pot luck is. I love a good pot luck. I do. But, it seems like in this day and age, when we know so much more about health, and food, that we should be having a little bit healthier food at our potlucks. Don’t you think? Every time we have a ward get together it seems we have the same thing…little smokies, small chicken salad sandwiches on white bread, cream cheese roll up surprise, and a fruit plate. Then, let’s not even mention the lots and lots … Continue reading

Healthy Latter-Day Saints

When I look around in my ward, or in other wards I’ve been in, I have thought a lot about how many of us are not taking very good care of ourselves. We are overweight like the rest of the nation, or we don’t exercise and take care of our bodies. As Latter-Day Saints, we should be the healthiest people we know! No matter what the latest fad diet is that is out there, we already have a recipe for success when taking care of our earthly bodies. It is the word of wisdom. The word of wisdom is more … Continue reading

LDS Family Services Website

The other day, I was searching for some enlightenment, for someone I know is going through a hard time right now. I decided to hop onto LDS Family Services website to see what I could find that might be helpful. I found a fountain of information that I thought I had to share with others. There are adoption services links, and addiction recovery links, but I was looking more for someone that I knew was struggling with emotional turmoil in their life. So, I went to counseling services. After clicking on that, I saw a link, Find help for your … Continue reading

Is Your Family Prepared?

My first experience with talking about food storage to someone who was not a member of the church came just after 9-11. She pulled me aside to let me know that she had purchased extra groceries just in case something happened. She was quite proud of herself, but then she went on to explain the other ways and reasons that she purchased in bulk and in advance. She felt that food storage was a good thing especially for the disasters that may come in our lives. She was right, but sometimes people look at our food storage and provident living … Continue reading

Sharing the Concept of Preparedness with Others

Preparedness is a concept that we have been taught over and over. Many people outside of our church often regard our preparedness concepts one of those strange things that Mormons do. However, I have found that the times that this is great way to have a discussion and help people around us. I have been approached, by more than one person who knew I was a member, and asked about the concept of preparedness and food storage. Many people embrace this concept as they see how it can benefit them in their lives. One example is the way that the … Continue reading

With the downturn in the economy, and the beginning of the severe weather season in the Midwest, it is an excellent time to be prepared. Our Children Are Watching Our Choices

What do we teach our children when we watch television together? What do we teach our children when we eat dinner together? What do we teach our children with the types of food we choose to have in our house or by the way we spend our free time? It is important to realize that our children scrutinize our every action. They notice what we eat, what we drink, when we exercise and what we value the most. They know how we spend our time and whether or not we study the scriptures on a regular basis. They know the … Continue reading
