Celebrate Pay it Forward Day!

love and kindness Did you know that today, April 26th is Pay It Forward Day? That is right! People all over the world are celebrating by doing special acts of kindness. You don’t have to only pay it forward today, though. Get in the habit of being kind, and the world will be a better place.

There are so many ways to practice a random act of kindness today, from paying for something for the person behind you to leaving a surprise gift for someone, to doing a much needed task anonymously. You can go small, such as putting a quarter in someone’s parking meter, or a little bigger, such as leaving a couple of home cooked meals on the doorstep of a harried parent or elderly person.

It is never too early to learn about the concept of paying it forward. Send your children off today in the world with the idea that they can do kind things for others. Kids have great imaginations and can be very tuned in to what little kindnesses others really need. Imagine how amazing it would be if our children grew up to assume that random acts of kindness were a normal every day part of society?

To make it more fun practicing your random acts of kindness and paying it forward, you can include “smile cards,” little cards that will let your recipient know that they have been tagged, asking them to then do something nice for someone else. You can make your own smile cards or download them at http://www.helpothers.org/cards.php.

As a Christian, I think this is an amazing opportunity to show love, and I like to think that the Lord is with us today (and always) as we practice these acts, guiding our hands and hearts, leading those who need a little kindness to the right spots at the right time.

Of course, you don’t have to be a Christian to pay it forward! You just have to be human.

Do you have any great ideas for paying it forward? Please let me know.
