Celebrity Tidbits—Tyra’s Bad Rap, Tom “Dungeon Master” Cruise, and More

TYRA’S BAD RAP

It’s nice to know that stars are not infallible.

Model-turned-talk-show-host Tyra Banks always looks flawless on television, but now the world knows that even a Victoria Secret cover girl can make mistakes.

Banks appeared on ABC’s chatfest “The View” a couple of days ago to clear up a nasty rumor that she was “cheap.” Turns out, a New York newspaper recently reported that Banks and music mogul Russell Simmons had “dined and dashed” after chowing down on breakfast at a Big Apple restaurant.

The truth of the matter (according to Banks) is that the two stars mistakenly left the Manhattan eatery without settling the check, and the entire episode was all a huge misunderstanding. As Banks explained to the ladies on “The View,” she had offered to pick up the check; later Simmons insisted he would, but ultimately neither did.

In the end, Banks returned to the restaurant to make good on the $120 bill, and according to the wait staff she also left a hefty tip.

TOM CRUISE—DUNGEON MASTER?

For the last several weeks I’ve seen the same headline splashed on supermarket tabloids: “Is Tom Holding Katie Prisoner?”

The “Tom” the rags are referring to is Tom Cruise and the “Katie” is his new bride Katie Holmes. It seems ever since the pair got hitched five months ago some media outlets have questioned the legitimacy of their union. Many of the tabloid stories allege that Holmes has been living in a “prison-like” environment and that Cruise has pushed her to adopt his rigid Scientology- backed beliefs.

Apparently, the rumors must have infiltrated the Cruise camp (or at least those of their friends) because actress Jenna Elfman went public today to dispute the Cruise-Holmes rift.

“Honestly, they’re happy,” Elfman told PEOPLE magazine. “They have a great life and they love each other. For some reason, the media cannot experience that. They must put in things other than the simplicity of it.”

Elfman, who attended the couple’s wedding in Italy and daughter’s Suri’s first birthday, says Cruise and Holmes are “the real deal.”

So, there you have it… I guess you shouldn’t believe everything you read… or should you?

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

One of the questions included in a game played at my bridal shower asked: “Name three of Michele’s favorite singers of all time?”

One of the answers is a guy who is making headlines for a recent split with his wife: Christopher Cross. (Yes, it’s one of those lesser-known facts about me—but, hey, how can you not love “Sailing” and “Arthur’s Theme?”)

According to news reports, Cross has filed for divorce after nearly 19 years of marriage. Interestingly (because of their ages), the singer is seeking custody of the couple’s 17-year-old son, Christopher, and 15-year-old daughter, Madison.
