When you have your own business, you may find that after a time of offering the same products and services for a while you want to try something different. One great thing about owning your own business is that you are able to change the types of products and services that you offer whenever you would like to. I am in the process of changing some of the services that I offer through my two home – based businesses and so far, things are going well.
One change that I am making with my law practice is that I am not taking any new clients that require court appearances as part of my representation of them. Since my primary occupation is that of a stay – at – home mom and since my kids are still very young, I really want to keep my work schedule to evenings only. Fortunately, I only have one open case left and it is nearing its conclusion.
You may be wondering what a lawyer would do, if they are not working on cases that might require court appearances. This is where I am making another change to my home – based businesses. I am basically combining my law practice with my freelance writing business, and offering freelance legal research and writing services. Last month, I switched my Elance membership from the “Writing and Translation” category over to the “Legal” category. I’ve already landed my first client, and things are looking very, very promising.
It gets even better. Since I own my home – based businesses and I get to decide what I do for work, I get to continue doing non – legal freelance writing work like blogging and writing e – commerce descriptions for my existing writing clients. Legal research and writing is interesting and enjoyable, but I love writing as a creative activity and it is important to me that I keep other types of writing work on my plate for that very reason.
When you own and operate your own business, you are in a position to make changes to the way that you do business. It can be hard to think about changing things, especially if things are going well. However, if there are changes that you would like to make, do not be afraid to make them. After all, if you end up not liking the results, you can go back to how you were doing things before.
