Christian Business Topic: What business type are you?

When a Christian begins a business or a non-profit ministry he must decide if his business is Christ Centered, a ministry or if he will be a Christian who serves in a secular field. Regardless of the choice the result should be to glorify God. I bring the distinction between the three because I know many who start a business and feel guilty for earning a profit or want to earn a profit or feel like they need to represent Christ even though they sell shower curtain rings so they end up selling “Jesus Shower Curtain Rings”. “Money is an … Continue reading

Christian Business Topic: Representing Christ in Your Business

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 “”As a business coach, I deal with “Christian business owners” all the time…and I’ve had such bad experiences with “Christian businesses” that it often worries me when I even hear the term. I hear the term at times, and almost immediately start expecting to be ripped off. Maybe because they said a prayer one Sunday morning, they feel they’re forgiven for whatever they do. I don’t know.”” This is a quote from Terry Dean, an ordained minister and … Continue reading

Sunday Christians?

In Romans 12 Paul urges believers to be ‘living sacrifices’ verse 1. What does it mean to be a living sacrifice? It means that we will ensure that we make decisions and choices each day that are pleasing to God. That may mean sometimes having to put aside what we want to do to help someone else or to so something for God and for His Kingdom. Like today I had to put aside going shopping do for some summer tops while they are on sale to do what I believed God was calling me to do. It’s no good … Continue reading

The Church is Full of Hypocrites

The church is full of hypocrites. Have you ever heard that comment? Maybe you’ve even said it or thought it yourself? There are times when I feel like a hypocrite. For example the other day I let frustration and anger get the better of me. Afterwards I felt awful about the situation. But sadly, as is so often the case, it wasn’t something I could go back and fix. I was left replaying the situation over and over in my mind. Then on Sunday I was up leading the singing in church. I felt like the biggest hypocrite, even more … Continue reading

Born-Again Christians a Potential Threat to Mental Health Sufferers (2)

In our last blog in this series, we looked at how Joyce, an elder of her church, introduced a victim of sexual crime who was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder to a “so-called” Christian counselor, the latter telling the afflicted woman that “God had given her this burden to work through”. As I discussed previously, this is a cruel and untrue statement, but to say such things to a person who is distressed and struggling under an enormous load is nothing short of sadistic. And yet these misguided “Christians continue to have the arrogance to believe that they can cure … Continue reading

The Older Couple at Church

When my mom was living with us, Wayne and I made it a point to take her to church on Sundays. She was Catholic, we’re not, but the Sunday after she died, we made a point of going to her church anyway. It was part of our own private memorial to her. We arrived a little early and took a seat in one of the back pews where we’d sit with my mom. I immediately started looking for them –the older couple Wayne had spotted the first Sunday we’d gone with my mom. “Aren’t they cute?” he’d leaned over and … Continue reading

Gospel Questions: Do Mormons Think They Have the Only True Church?

I do like to ask and answer the hard questions, don’t I? Well, this one is definitely a hotbed of debate. One of the concerns that people of other religions have about the LDS Church is that we seem to think we’re the only true church. Let me shed just a little more light on this. When Jesus Christ was on the earth, He set up His church the way He wanted it to be run. He had apostles, prophets, ordinances, the sacrament, priesthood authority, and He showed His disciples how to use all of them. When He died, and … Continue reading

Finding the Right Church – Part 1

How do you go about finding the right church? Is it like finding a new house that you have a list of essential criteria to tick off? But sometimes when house hunting you just walk into a house and fall in love with it. It feels right for you. Can it be the same with finding a church? When we were house hunting before our move, we had a list of criteria of what was essential and another list of things that would be nice but not critical. When looking for a church a similar checklist is good. What I … Continue reading

Cicadas and Christians

Cicadas have always been to me the sound of summer as I am sure they are for many people in Australia. As a child like most children, I collected cicadas. The Black Prince was especially prized. In the teenage years, I had a cousin who had a cicada shell gilded and made into a brooch. It was certainly a talking point. When we lived in Millthorpe I didn’t wake up at first what was different about summer. Then it hit me – no cicadas. It was only when I went into bible study one evening in Orange that I noticed … Continue reading

How To Handle Differences Of Opinion In Church

Today we’re going look at a church in New Testament times. As you read, think about how your behavior and your church stacks up against this model in Acts 15:1-35. There are always those who come into a church situation seeking to cause trouble. This is exactly what happened here. Men, possibly Pharisees, came down from Antioch and started to teach Gentile believers that they had to be circumcised, verse 1. These men wanted to add extra conditions to the gospel message. This brought them into dispute with Paul and Barnabas, verse 2. There are those today who want to … Continue reading
