Cindy’s List Has A Wealth of Resources

Genealogy requires a lot of research. It is possible to fill in part of your family tree by asking your relatives for information that they know about the births, deaths, and marriage dates of other family members. If you are lucky, and someone in your family has been working on genealogy, you can get a good amount of information from that person. However, in most cases, if you are going to continue doing research about your family tree, it is going to require access to other resources. Cindy’s List can offer a plethora of resources for you, all in one place.

Cindy’s List of genealogy sites on the internet has been online for over a decade. It is frequently updated with new information. You can find over 282,000 links on Cindy’s List that relate to family history and genealogy. I found links to some online resources that I had already heard about, such as Ancestry.com, and ROOTS Web. But, most of the links lead to information that was new to me, and that I did not know existed. Cindy’s List can save you some time as you do your research, because it conveniently puts all of the links to the different resources in one place. You only need to add one bookmark to your browser, instead of several dozen!

The first page of Cindy’s List shows different categories that you can select, based on your genealogy needs at the moment. They are listed in alphabetical order. Each one has a number next to the main link, showing you how many additional resources you will find under each different topic. You may want to begin with the “Beginners” category. Here, you will find helpful hints and tricks, information about how to research different types of records, links to some of the more popular genealogy websites, and much more.

There are links on the main page that relate to specific countries, geographical areas, and specific heritages. You can choose categories that are relevant to specific religions, (such as Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, and Quaker, to name a few). If you are searching for particular dates, you can search through their links on Births & Baptisms, Calendars & Dates, Death Records, Family Bibles,Timelines, or Marriages. There are several categories of military topics to browse through, and a category relating to Voters, Poll Books, and Electoral Records. All of these categories are just a small portion of what can be found on the Cindy’s List website.

There are also some resources that I did not expect to find. The topic of “Myths, Hoaxes & Scams” was unexpected. There are also links relating to genealogy and fiction, and genealogy and movies and music. I may want to come back and check out the topics “Odds & Ends”, “Social Networking for Genealogy”, and “Outer Space”. Those sound very interesting!
