Coffee

Are you a coffee drinker? Starbucks sells in the area of 4 billion cups of coffee a year. Starbucks serves roughly 30 million customers a week and around 4 million customers each day. That’s a lot of coffee.

It’s Pumpkin Spice Latte season at Starbucks. I don’t really like pumpkin pie, but I love those warm cups of spicy pumpkin goodness. Eggnog season is coming and eggnog lattes are better than Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Several years ago a barista encouraged me to put chai in my eggnog latte. I didn’t know that something as wonderful as eggnog latte would be even better and it was. Other holiday coffees at Starbucks are peppermint mocha and gingerbread.

I do not consider myself a coffee drinker even though I have coffee every day. To me coffee drinkers can drink coffee black. Coffee is an obnoxious bitter beverage. Not even a lot of sugar can make coffee palatable. I like to drink coffees that are very flavored or fun. Drinking coffee when it’s accompanied by chocolate chips and sweet whipped cream is delightful.

Chris and I did not start our life together as coffee drinkers. Somehow, though, we’re on our third coffee maker. I got our first coffee maker as a freebie for buying coffee through the mail. I put the appliance in the kitchen and the coffee in the freezer. I think we started seriously making coffee after we moved to Texas. We drink out of great big coffee mugs that hold about two cups’ worth.

My coffee change of heart was brought about by Coffee Mate and International Delight. The flavored creamers make coffee one of the best parts of my day. The Safeway brand Lucerne is even better and cheaper. Today I had a steaming cup with the holiday flavor Warm Cinnamon Sugar Cookie.
