Crockpot Recipes: Strawberry Banana Cream Oatmeal

crockpot recipesWhenever I can, I try to serve a hot breakfast to my family. It isn’t always easy, since each of my children have a different school start time. Weekday recipes that can be prepared ahead of time are always a help. So are ones that can stay warm and ready when needed. This way, the kids can serve themselves or just eat breakfast when they get up.

This crockpot recipe yields a nice creamy and comforting breakfast on a cold day. It is also wonderful for someone who has the flu, since it is soft on the throat, easy to eat and warms you right up. The texture is more creamy than the traditional oatmeal, and the flavor is sweet but not too sweet. If you don’t have any frozen strawberries on hand, you can substitute two more bananas for a total of four bananas.

You can mix the base ingredients directly in the crockpot and then set it to cook overnight, so it is a great recipe for busy families to have in the arsenal. Plus, with inexpensive ingredients, this recipe costs only pennies to prepare.

Crockpot Recipes: Strawberry Banana Cream Oatmeal yields 8 cups of oatmeal.

Ingredients:

8 cups of water

1 cup of sweetened condensed milk

4 cups of dry oats (old-fashioned)

2 medium bananas

1 cup of frozen strawberries

Cooking spray

Directions:

Spay the inside of your crockpot or slow cooker.

Add the water, sweetened condensed milk and the oats into the crockpot. Mix.

Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 7-1/2 hours.

When you get up in the morning, prepare the fruit to add to the oatmeal. Defrost and chop the strawberries and slice the bananas into thin slices. Add the fruit to the oatmeal and mix well. Recover the crockpot and heat for another five minutes. Serve and enjoy.
