Death Records, Hawkeye Ancestors, and Real Time Research

keyboard and mouse Don’t have the time to travel to a genealogy workshop? You could attend a genealogy webinar, or watch a video of a genealogy class, instead. Some of them will require you to get online at a specific time, while others will work around your schedule.

Ancestry.com LIVE has two genealogy webinars that will be happening this week. The first one is called “Searching for Death Records”. It will take place on October 16, 2012. This webinar starts at 1:00 in the afternoon and ends at 2:00 in the afternoon EDT. You need to RSVP if you want to attend.

MyHeritage has a webinar called “Record Matches with James Tanner”. It will happen on October 16, 2012 at 4:00 in the afternoon, EDT. The focus of this webinar is the new Record matches feature that MyHeritage uses.

You will get an introduction to Record Matches, and learn how to check your own Record Matches. You will learn how to use that information to discover more about your relatives. In order to attend this webinar, you need to register. It is my understanding that you need a MyHeritage account in order to register.

Ancestry.com LIVE also has a genealogy webinar called “Alternatives to Death Certificates”. This one will take place on October 18, 2012. It will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon and end at 2:00 in the morning EDT. You must RSVP if you want to attend.

Family Tree University has a webinar called “Find Your Hawkeye State Ancestors”. This one will take place on October 30, 2012. It will begin at 7:00 in the evening EST. The presenters will be Diana Crisman Smith and Gary Smith. The webinar will last for one hour, and it will cost $49.99 to attend.

You will learn basic Iowa history in this webinar. You will also learn what is available and where to find essential Iowa records. They will teach you strategies for tracing American Indian, French, English, Irish, and other ethnic ancestors in Iowa. Get tips on how to find information on your Des Moines and Cedar Rapids ancestors.

FamilySearch has a somewhat new video lesson called “Doing Research in Real Time: A Collaborative Approach”. The video is ten minutes long, and you can watch it for free anytime you want to. This lesson was created on September 28, 2012.

The lesson is presented by David Rencher, the Chief Genealogical Officer for FamilySearch. The video is adapted from a presentation given at the 2010 National Genealogy Conference. Learn how to form a collaborative team that can work together online to do genealogy research.
