Deep Cleaning Your Home

There is a big difference between cleaning and “deep” cleaning. While regular cleaning can cut down on how often you need to deep clean and make the work easier, it is still necessary every-so-often.

Deep cleaning means getting into areas you don’t normally touch. It is those unseen, oftentimes overlooked areas of the home.

How often you need to deep clean will depend not only on your maintenance of that area but what it is used for. Some rooms or areas of the home may need a deep cleaning every few weeks. But some can wait a few months.

It might help to come up with a deep cleaning schedule and checklist. Decide how often you will deep clean each room.

For instance, you might decide that the living room can be done every six months. But the kitchen might need it every three months.

Your checklist will help you focus on the areas that need it most. This way you won’t forget anything and you will know ahead of time what types of cleaning supplies will be necessary for the job.

An example would be your kitchen. Your checklist might include the following:

Stove

Exterior and interior of cabinets

Dishwasher

Refrigerator

Freezer

Underneath and behind appliances

Drawers

Go through each room and put together your checklist so you will have it handy the next time you need it. It is an opportunity to think about those areas you might not otherwise.

You might even schedule one room every-other-month which would look something like this:

January – Kitchen

March – Bathroom

May – Living Room

July – Dining Room/Family Room/Rec Room

September – Kids Bedrooms

November – Your Bedroom

It’s best to focus on one room at a time. Once you have deep cleaned it, make sure to maintain it. When you do, the next time it is ready to be deep cleaned, the job will be so much easier.
