Dinner Discussions Week 40

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson forty from the manuals. If you are off because of stake conference you should adjust your discussion accordingly. These discussions should remain upbeat and positive. It is important that your children look forward to them, rather than dread them.

If you have a child in nursery or Sunbeams, he learned about the Sacrament and the importance of thinking about Jesus during the Sacrament. The children learned the story of the Last Supper. They also learned about how Jesus taught about the Sacrament when he visited the people in the Book of Mormon. They talked about being reverent during the Sacrament. They talked about how thinking about Jesus’ life can help them do this. You may want to talk to your children about the importance of the Sacrament, and being reverent.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven, she learned about the importance of forgiving others. The children learned that Jesus forgave those who crucified him. They then discussed the importance of forgiving others. They discussed different examples of when you should forgive others. You may want to talk to your children about forgiving others, and share examples from your life.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven, he learned about Daniel and his refusal to eat the king’s food. They then discussed how we could blessed by following the Word of Wisdom. You may want to review the Word of Wisdom with your children. The assigned reading is Daniel 1:5-17.

If you have a child twelve or thirteen, she learned that home is the best place to learn and prepare for life and eternity. They discussed how the family is important to Heavenly Father. They then discussed the different ways that a family can help prepare them for adulthood. You may want to continue this discussion at home.

For all members fourteen and older the lesson focused on the last chapters of Isaiah. The lesson discussed the importance of the stakes of the church, and the need to do missionary work to help the stakes grow stronger. The lesson also discussed the Millennium, and that the world would be filled with peace during this time.

The young women learned about the importance of knowing basic health care skills. They young men learned about temples this week. Relief Society and Priesthood lessons were based on talks out of the May 2006 Ensign. The topics covered can vary from ward to ward.
