Disney-MGM Studios to be Renamed in 2008

Disney has always been so good at naming things that it is hard to believe they might actually try to rename something. Their titles for movies, music and attractions are always so well picked that they become household names that few people ever forget. As of January 2008, you will no longer be able to visit Disney-MGM Studios. Don’t be disappointed! Disney is injecting a bit of new into the old classic. What you can visit is the newly renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Apparently there is so much fun stuff going on in today’s Hollywood that Disney felt the need to rename the park to reflect that it isn’t just about the golden days of yesteryear but a “celebration of the new entertainment that today’s Hollywood has to offer”.

Not only will Disney’s Hollywood Studios have the classic attractions and art deco architecture that we all know and love, but they will be incorporating much more of contemporary Hollywood and pop culture to include music.

Some of the new attractions include the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Toy Story Mania, the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, the Block Party Bash and High School Musical 2: School’s Out!

The Block Party Bash will feature characters from The Incredibles, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and A Bug’s Life and replace the more classic Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade. Another new attraction is High School Musical 2: School’s Out! (This will replace the original High School Musical Pep Rally.) In this interactive attraction, performers will be on a traveling stage (Ferris Bueller style) and will invite all ages of fans to catch Wildcat fever by singing and dancing.

So in addition to renaming itself from Disney-MGM Studios to Disney’s Hollywood
Studios, it seems that the Disney-MGM studios are doing what has hitherto been best done in Hollywood – the contemporary remake. I for one am looking forward to all the fun that the new changes bring.
