Disney Party Tickets and Animal Kingdom Update

Tickets for two Magic Kingdom holiday events, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, are now available. This information comes via the official Disney Parks blog.

Pricing and date information for both events are up at the official post. What’s funny about that, however, is that the article doesn’t contain any links to follow or phone numbers to call to actually book the tickets.

All one needs to do, however, is go to the official Disney World pages detailing each event, and one is directed to the purchasing sites from there. Follow the link here for the Halloween party, and the link here for the Christmas party.

Another promise I often try to make at the parks blog, in addition to finding out when tickets for events go on sale, is that I’ll follow through with more information about new attractions. I often talk about those as soon as I hear about them, when few details are yet available. Most of the time it’s ages before I can make good on that promise; it was nearly year until enough new information on the Fantasyland expansion surfaced to make a full article.

I’m in luck this time with the Wild Africa Trek. Back in March I first wrote about the new adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and then at the end of April the official Parks blog posted more information about it.

Although the Wild Africa Trek just opened, Disney World isn’t done improving it. More has been added to the experience, and the Parks blog has a video wherein Imagineer Joe Rohde expounds upon the update.

Or at least that’s what he’s supposed to do. Instead, he talks around the Animal Kingdom addition, pausing in his exposition so that the video can cut to shots of park guests wandering through the Animal Kingdom while an orchestral film-style soundtrack swells in the background.

“We really want our guests to have a sense of adventure, a sense of exposure, a sense that there’s something at stake, and a sense that they’ve been let out into a place with no boundaries,” says Rohde of the Africa Trek update. What does that mean? When I hear exposure, something at stake, and no boundaries in terms of a safari-style experience at a theme park, my mind immediately goes to thoughts of a lack of safety.

One reason why most people go to the Animal Kingdom instead of going on an actual African safari is due to a lack of funds for a real trip. But I’m sure many of the people in Orlando also enjoy the fact that the simulated safari experience means it should be safer than a real one. I don’t find Rohde’s words that reassuring, or even that illuminating.

Luckily, the parks blog post also contains the actual details on the new feature of the Wild Africa Trek. The experience has been lengthened, now including a trip to the private safari camp. This will afford guests more opportunities to get close glimpses of the rhinos, lions, and other animals.

The tour starts up in June, when additional departure times for the Wild Africa trip will be added. As before, be sure to book your turn far in advance by calling 407-WDW-TOUR (8687).
