Dr. Phil Adds To The Family

Boy, I would hate to see what happens if this marriage fails. Attention all you Dr. Phil fans—his son just got hitched to a Playboy model. PEOPLE Magazine is reporting that best-selling author – and Dr. Phil’s son – Jay McGraw married actress Erica Dahm on Saturday.

The magazine reports that the “couple wed in a non-denominational ceremony before 70 guests inside Dr. Phil and wife Robin’s Tuscan-style home in Beverly Hills.” What’s more, the good doctor served as his son’s best man.

I happened to catch a story of the wedding preparations on an entertainment show last week and was a bit shocked to see that the wedding was going to take place in the McGraw’s home (I was thinking it would take place on one of Oprah’s properties). PEOPLE magazine confirms that the event took place in the home’s center room, which was transformed into an all-white chapel, “with 30-ft. sheer fabric panels covered in crystals hanging from the cathedral ceiling.”

According to the TV segment I saw prior to the wedding, Dahm was so distraught that she couldn’t find the dress of her dreams that Dr. Phil’s wife convinced her that the solution was to have some one custom make a gown for her. Apparently, Dahm took the suggestion because PEOPLE reports she walked down the aisle in a one-of-a-kind dress with her sisters serving as bridesmaids (the Dahm sisters are triplets).

Wedding guests tell the magazine that the ceremony was “very intimate and beautiful.” And what made it even more special was the fact that the couple “wrote the entire ceremony and their vows themselves.”

I have seen the couple on Dr. Phil’s show a few times (in the audience) and knew that they met on the reality show Renovate My Family, which the younger McGraw hosted (he’s better known for writing self-help books for teens). But, what I didn’t know was Dahm and her sisters served as construction experts on the show. Apparently, it was love at first sight and a year after they met McGraw proposed with a five-carat diamond, emerald-and-platinum engagement ring that he designed.

Back to my opening line—I have to believe that this couple got substantial advice from Dr. Phil prior to their trip down the aisle. I wish them well, but I won’t be surprised if I see them on a future Dr. Phil show should the honeymoon end sooner than expected.
