Dr. Phil Smells Fresh Meat and Her Name is Britney Spears

Quick… name the one person you would have least expected to show up at Britney Spears’s hospital room to offer psychological aid to the embattled songstress. Okay, besides Robin Williams.

If you answered Dr. Phil McGraw go out and buy yourself a lottery ticket.

Dr. PhilBritney Spears… could the insanity meter gauging this drama peak any more?

You’ve got a 26-year-old head shaving, bird flipping, finger lickin’ mother of two young sons who appears to have serious psychological problems and you throw an oversized, over-hyped, TV quack into the mix… Apocalypse now.

And the sad part is that Dr. Phil means business… the business of ratings that is.

According to the good doctor (his daytime TV talk show’s website says McGraw has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from North Texas State University, though many critics question his credentials), not only is he a FOO (Friend of Oprah) he is also tight with Britney’s mom and dad. Be that as it may, it appears Brit herself can’t stand the guy as witnessed during his meeting with her in her hospital room yesterday.

According to TV’s “Entertainment Tonight” Dr. Phil is devoting Monday’s taping of his syndicated daytime show to the pop wreck’s problems. As such he moseyed over to Cedars-Sinai hospital Saturday at the invitation of Brit’s formerly estranged father Jamie who has been with the singer since she was admitted to the facility late Thursday.

Despite, the sugary press release that was issued by the good doc following his visit to the embattled mother of two, which read in part: “My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car.” It turns out all is not what the good spin-doctor would have you believe.

According to TMZ.com, Britney was blindsided by Dr. Phil and walked out of the room when he entered. Sources also reveal the TV shrink spoke with the troubled pop star for 15 minutes tops—–not an hour as McGraw’s press release states. And as for Dr. Phil’s statement that he accompanied Brit to her vehicle, according to TMZ, if the talk show host was walking behind her, that’s news to her. “She absolutely was not accompanied by him,” a source tells TMZ.

As for Dr. Phil’s planned show devoted to the life and times of the derailed former Mouseketeer, it is scheduled to air Tuesday. According to reports, somehow McGraw convinced Brit’s mom and dad to appear on the show (which will be taped Monday) and his visit to the “Chaotic” singer’s hospital room was a desperate attempt to get Britney to appear alongside them for a televised intervention.

Look, I have nothing against Dr. Phil McGraw. I’m sure deep, deep, deep down he, like the rest of America (or at least the part that has been following this drama unfold), wants the best for Britney Spears (or at least for her two innocent toddlers). But, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it will be a cold day in you know where before Britney Spears appears on the Dr. Phil show.

Dr. Phil has got to be as delusional as Britney if he thinks he can help her wade through a serious medical condition (reports say the singer likely suffers from bipolar disorder that is now “in the red zone”) on national TV.

What is this guy thinking? Okay, besides record ratings?
