DVD Review: Yoga By Teens

Yoga offers benefits to people of all ages. Yoga helps teens build healthy habits for life and helps improve balance, flexibility and strength. In addition, yoga can help to reduce stress, boost self confidence and increase self esteem. This is beneficial during the teen years and throughout your entire life.

Yoga By Teens is a basic hatha yoga class on DVD that is perfect for home practice. This practice is good for any teen who wants to try yoga for the first time or a teen with some yoga experience.

There are other yoga DVDs for teens. What makes this unique is the practice has been designed by teens and is presented by three teen girls. The girls are sisters and work together to explain and show other teens how to do the poses.

The DVD begins with an introduction to yoga. The information is geared for teens and all the material is designed to appeal teens. The pacing of the introduction and the practice are paced for teens.

The practice is a total of 40 minutes long, but it is broken into three segments. If a shorter practice is desired, you can try one of the segments. The three segments focus on standing poses, seated poses and floor poses. Continuing with the next segment will provide a well rounded hatha yoga practice.

Yoga By Teens has bonus features, in addition to the practice and introduction. The bonus material includes additional sun salutation sequences, a glossary of yoga terms and interviews.

The practice is accessible to teens of all ages and levels of ability. Teens as young as sixth grade throughout the teen years will enjoy the poses. One of the sisters modifies the poses for beginners, so if you are new to yoga or find a specific pose challenging, you can follow the modified pose.
