Often, great consideration is given to the types of photos featured on a layout, as well as major elements, such as frames, journaling blocks and titles. However, when it comes to creating eye-popping page borders, many scrapbookers throw something together at the last minute or leave them out all together.
Adding an interesting border to your layout doesn’t have to take a ton of time, money or effort. You can easily customize a border with materials you already have in your scrapbooking supply stash. For example, leftover stickers can be placed back-to-back to create a whimsical page border. If you have extra letter stickers or rub-ons that you used to craft a page title, consider using some to make a personalized border spelling out words that describe the theme featured on your layout.
Another option is to use free scrapbooking clip art using shapes that enhance the theme of your page design. Budget-friendly borders are easier to craft than you might think. For instance, you could dig through your scrap paper collection and simply tear a strip of contrasting patterned paper and glue it to one side of your layout for an instant border. Other cheap choices include adhering leftover ribbon to the sides of your page or arranging a series of die cut tags in rows for a unique border.
If you have a healthy scrapbook supply stash or you can budget for more expensive borders, consider using flower embellishments found at craft stores to add a pretty touch to your layout. Buttons, brads, gems, eyelets and thin scraps of organza or mesh also make great looking borders. For those with limited time, simply glue shapes punched from various papers to make a colorful border that can be put together in no time.
