Excuses for Not Exercising: #3 I Hate to Exercise

If you are an exercise hater, you can learn to love it. All you need to do find something active that you enjoy doing. There is so much to choose from that will keep you physically active. By exercising 20 minutes a day you will be helping yourself to stay in good physical condition and keep your spirits high. Once you start becoming more active you will probably lose a few pounds at least. This loss of weight will have you feeling like a weight has been lifted from you. The loss of weight will also build up your confidence in yourself because not only will you feel better physically and emotionally, you will know that you are looking better too.

If you do not know what kind of physical activity you would enjoy try different types of activity. Take a walk around the block. Get a hula-hoop and give it a whirl. Did you know that there are now hula hooping classes? Do you like to dance? There is Zumba, the newest exercise/dance class that people are falling in love with, there is square dancing, ballroom dancing, hip-hop classes…..there is something for everyone. If you do not want to take a class….dance around your bedroom. It does not matter where you do it or if it is structured. Physical activity of any type that is consistent for a good 20 minutes to 30 minutes is good for you. Do you like to play sports? Do you like to skate? What about rebounding? Who wouldn’t like to jump around on a trampoline? It is fun.

The key to getting started and learning to like exercise is finding what is right for you. You need to find out what will hold your interest long enough to be consistent. It might even be a combination of activities. Combine two or three of your favorite activities and alternate them during your week. Go swimming on Monday, go bicycling on Wednesday and dancing on Friday. Once you get into a routine and start moving you will feel more energetic and healthier as well. Find out what you enjoy and start getting more active today!
