Exercise: It’s Good for the Heart

Most of us have already failed miserably at keeping our New Year’s Resolutions, according to the radio this morning at least 80% of us have given up on them already. This is pretty typical after the first week or two, but even if you’ve struggled with them a little so far, you have a whole year to perfect them so don’t give up hope!

This year one of my many resolutions was to start exercising again. I, like most people, put on a few extra pounds during the holidays. When you have kids around there seems to be an endless supply of candy from stockings and parties which isn’t particularly helpful for parents with a sweet tooth trying to lose weight. I, like most, gave in and ate a bit more chocolate than I intended and it’s starting show. So I decided to join a local gym, which was surprisingly affordable, and am starting my adventure this week when Logan goes to his dad’s for a few hours. This way I don’t lose any time with him and I still get a little time to exercise.

Now, I’ve never been big on exercise. I don’t like getting sweaty and I don’t like sore muscles, but studies show the benefits are endless. Exercise pumps endorphins through your body that simply make you feel good. You gain strength and endurance, plus it even boosts your energy, which we all need as single mothers. It builds not only your physical heart, but it is great for an emotional heart on the mend. With all those feel good hormones flowing throughout your body it’s hard not to feel some happiness. You’ll be getting physically stronger while helping yourself heal from the difficulties you’ve experienced at the same time. Besides there’s nothing better than getting into shape and showing your ex what he’s missing out on!
