Favorite Cookbooks

Cookbooks are as individual as you are. When I look through my cupboard there are a pile of cook books. My daughter and daughter-law’s kitchens are much the same. Both, my daughter and daughter-in-law, like glossy cookbooks with color photographs of the finished product. I’m not a visual person. Hey I’m the person who always manages to misread signs relying on visuals.

‘Why can’t they just use words’ I cry. So I ’m happy to have a cookbook with no photos at all, just good recipes.

Some people manage to keep their cookbooks spotless. Not me. You can always tell my favorite recipe pages by the spillages on them.

As I look at my cookbook collection, I notice few there I have bought myself. The only ones I have bought, and these are favorites I use again and again, are collections bought from churches or areas where people have put their own favorite recipes together in a book.

On the other hand you get people who will never share their recipe and hedge around rather than give it out. I find that attitude incomprehensible. If you have something good surely the idea is to share it. On that note, how about we share the names of our favorite cook books? I’d love to hear yours and I’m sure other people would too.

When it comes to my favorites one is a little one I bought about thirty years ago at a church fete at Northmead. Other recent favorites are Slow Cooker by Sally Wise and Gluten Free Cooking by Sue Shepherd.

Some of my recipes are in a card file I made up using many of my favorites, fammily recipes, recipes from friends, or in several large books where I have written, typed or stuck in recipes from magazines. Some cookbooks are inherited from my Mom or Mick’s Mom. Several have been given my friends and family members. Not Mick, he has never bought me a cookbook. A couple of them are cookbooks I have reviewed, like the recent Slow Cooking. Keep an eye on my blog as I’ll have a review of new cook book later this week.
