If your calendar isn’t yet booked with fun things to do this fall, you might want to look around a bit. Now is one of the best times of year to find plenty of free events to entertain the kids and even the whole family. Check out the following options that may be available in your area.
Trunk or Treat
Many churches and places of worship sponsor trunk or treat events, that are either on a weekday or a weekend, during the day or in the evening, so there are a lot of scheduling options. During a trunk or treat event, kids can go from car to car (each car is decorated) to collect treats. Often, there are games, prizes and even free food and drinks as well!
Pumpkin or Harvest Festivals
Look for pumpkin or harvest festivals that are sponsored by a township or a gardening center. At one of these events, you may be able to enjoy free hayrides, free pumpkin carving, bonfires, music, and even free apple cider or other treats. Our town even gives away pumpkins!
Another place to look for pumpkin or harvest festivals are local civic clubs.
Free Halloween and Fall Crafts
When I was walking around a craft store the other day, an announcement came across the speaker system telling all of the customers that there would be several free crafting events, just in time for Halloween. The events included everything from cookie decorating to building a haunted house planter. If your craft store doesn’t have any events in its flyer or on its website, call your local store. Some individual stores sponsor events that are not always advertised.
Halloween Parades
Halloween parades are always fun for kids, and they often include prizes for best costumes. Town websites and word of mouth are two ways that you can find out about the best parades. Get lucky, and your kids may be able to ride on one of the floats.
