Ancestry is a FREE app that can be used on your iPhone or iPad. It has been created by Ancestry.com, and is designed to be used in conjunction with their website. Members of Ancestry.com can use this app to add information to what they have already added to their family tree on that website. You can also access Ancestry.com to check records through this app.

Shoebox by 1000Memories is a FREE app that can be used with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The app uses the built in camera on your device as a scanner. This allows you to upload old family photos into the app. You can share those photos through Facebook and Twitter, and even tag the relatives who are in the photos. You can also add captions, dates, and place information onto the photos.

Tombfinder App is a FREE app that can be used with iPhone and iPad. You can use this app to locate the tombstone of your relative or ancestor. It will give you directions from where you are to (a participating) cemetery. Once you arrive, the app can direct you from your car to the exact grave you are looking for. Genealogists can add grave site photos to the database, and edit records that are online.

Name Maps is a FREE app that can be used on iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. You can use this app to see where other people, who have the same surname that you do, settled in the United States. You can have the app show you an absolute distribution. Or, you can have it show you an approximate number of people with with a certain last name who live within a particular state.
