Humor: National Grump Out Day

Here is another obscure holiday that you can have fun celebrating at home. Today, may 7th is National Grump Out Day for the United States of America. During this holiday, we are all supposed to stamp out grumpiness and eradicate it wherever we find it, whether it be in our selves or in others. No matter how sleep deprived you are, no matter how awful your boss is, you are simply not allowed to be grumpy (that is if you want to celebrate). It is hard not to have fun with this holiday, although I don’t know if it will … Continue reading

Friday Frugal Funnies: A Coupon Mishap

I’m not sure why, but reading other people’s mishaps and disaster stories that revolve around our nutty frugal behavior make me laugh harder than even some of the funniest jokes. Thus is the case with this story brought to you by my friend Cara who in her family is known as the frugal fanatic though I still think that title probably could best fit me. Cara shares here funny story: “Ok, well mine has little do with frugality and more … Continue reading

Homeschool Word of the Day: Strewing

Strewing means scattering, or dispersing haphazardly. In homeschooling, to strew is to leave education books, materials, and games lying about in the child’s path. Strewing is a word used by unschoolers. While unschoolers allow their children to follow their own paths, many do manage to direct the kids a bit with strategic placement of learning materials. Sandra Dodd, who coined the term, explains this practice well on her website. She explains, “Some of our most successful items have been toys or objects for playing with (sometimes not purely a toy) like pattern blocks, castle blocks, magnets (or some new magnet … Continue reading
