Gas Tank Getaway: Six Flags Great America

resizecoasterDon’t let high gas prices keep you home this summer.  There’s no need to sweat it out in your backyard when extreme family fun is less than a tank of gas away.

If you live in Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan or Illinois, a mecca of mind-blowing adventure awaits at Six Flags Great America.  The popular theme park is located in Gurnee, Illinois; less than an hour’s drive from Chicago, Milwaukee, and a host of other major Midwestern cities.

Great America’s convenient location is a major timesaver, but the savings don’t stop there.  In addition to banking gas money, you can continue to stretch your travel dollar by gaining admission to two parks for one low price.  A single ticket to Six Flags Great America not only allows you access to dozens of heart-pounding thrill rides, multiple interactive children’s areas, parades, games and restaurants, but you can also cool off at Hurricane Harbor.  The massive water park is home to a slew of splashtastic features specially designed for kids of all ages.

Then, there are the memories.  Great America is the gateway to experiences you can’t put a price tag on like… dancing with a dashing duck.

In an effort to help budget-conscious families get even more bang for their buck, this summer, Six Flags Great America is debuting a new high-tech nighttime extravaganza.  IgNight – Grand Finale is a feast for the senses complete with music, dancing, singing, and a plethora of awe-inspiring visual effects, including fireworks, laser lighting, fog, strobes and enhanced video production techniques.

The mesmerizing multimedia masterpiece will blow you away with its brilliant pyrotechnics.  However, during a recent visit my family discovered there’s much more to the illuminating show than just sparks and smoke.  The high-octane performance offers a vibrant lesson on the history of the Windy City, from the days of the Great Chicago Fire to 21st century teen-centric dance parties.

During igNight, more than 30 performers strut their stuff in front of an enormous multilevel stage which rises 60 feet above the audience, though the singers and dancers aren’t affixed to the raised platforms; rather, they interact with the crowd, encouraging guests to bust their own moves to the beat of One Direction, Selena Gomez, Kayne West and other modern-day pop sensations.

But, the best part:  Seats for igNight are free with admission to the park.

You don’t have to be a penny pincher to know that funding a trip to a major theme park can do serious damage to your household budget.  Fortunately, there are several ways to save big on a Six Flags Great America outing.  Some of the easiest include:

Coupons:  From now through September 14, 2013, Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering $20 off on a one-day adult general admission ticket to Six Flags Great America.  The online coupon can be printed at home and is valid for up to four discounted admission tickets.

Discounts:  Coca-Cola is giving you two ways to score cheap admission to Great America.  You can save $21 on adult admission if you purchase your ticket online at sixflags.com using the promo code:  COKE.  To take advantage of the other money-saving option, simply bring a specially-marked Coke or Sprite can to the park’s main gate.  The cans feature a coupon for $20 off an adult ticket and must be forfeited to the attendant upon arrival.  Jewel-Osco supermarket chain is also helping you afford a trip to Six Flags Great America by selling discounted one-day general admission tickets and season passes to the park at radically reduced prices.  If you purchase tickets at a participating Jewel-Osco grocer you can save more than $20 on adult admission.  What’s more, there’s a store located less than two miles down the street from Six Flags Great America at 6509 West Grand Avenue.  Making a pit stop there to buy your tickets before you head to the park can save you a bundle of cash.

Season Passes:  If you are a hard-core thrill seeker living on a limited budget, you will do your wallet a favor by investing in a Season Pass to Six Flags Great America.  The park offers a variety of different passes including a new GOLD PASS that’s good at all Six Flags parks across the nation.  The GOLD PASS also includes free parking which equates to a $22 savings each time you visit the park. Crunch the numbers and you’ll see that a regular season pass pays for itself in less than two visits.  What’s more, the pass comes with free tickets for friends to use on select dates and a discount book filled with more than $300 worth of coupons good on in-park food, games, and souvenirs.

So, don’t put the brakes on a summer getaway.  Get in your vehicle, fill-up the tank and enjoy an affordable road trip that will yield priceless memories.
