Genealogy Podcast Roundup – Week of July 16, 2012

microphone Each and every week, the Genealogy Podcast Roundup brings you brand new episodes of your favorite genealogy podcasts. This is a great way to find genealogy podcasts that are new to you, and to catch up on your favorite genealogy podcasts.

African Roots Podcast released episode number 171 on July 13, 2012. In this episode, host Angela Walton-Raji brings you up to date on how the derecho storm took out the electric power for the people in her area, and how this has affected her. She also points out upcoming genealogy events in places like Little Rock, Arkansas, Topeka, Kansas, and more. She also mentions the 1940 Census indexing project by Family Search, and more!

Colonial Williamsburg released a new episode on July 16, 2012. This episode is called “The Colonist’s Summer Wardrobe”. Curator Linda Baumgarten tells you how to dress for the heat in colonial style. This could be an interesting resource for genealogists who have ancestors who lived in colonial America.

NPR released an episode of “Talk of the Nation” on July 16, 2012. This episode is called “Piecing Together Stories of Families ‘Lost In Slavery’”. Host Jennifer Ludden speaks with author Heather Andrea Williams about her book “Help Me to Find My People: The African American Search for Family Lost in Slavery”.

NPR released an episode of “Weekend Edition Sunday” on July 15, 2012. The episode is called “Don’t Cry Over Burnt Milk In South Texas: Savor It”. This episode talks about a candy called leche quemada in Mexico. In South Texas, there is a similar tweet called cajeta that is made of goat milk. This is an example of a food that is particular to a certain location, and that brings back family memories for those who grew up enjoying that food.

Ancestry.com has released a recorded version of a few of their Ancestry.com Live webinars. One is called “Part 1, Collaborate”. It was released on July 12, 2012. They also released “Part 2, Collaborate” on July 12, 2012. I believe that these two videos are parts of a recent live webinar called “Collaboration & Being in the Right Place at the Right Time”, which originally aired on July 12, 2012.
