Get More Bang for Your Vacation Buck

Old Man Winter is unleashing a cruel smackdown on the Upper Midwest.

If daytime high temperatures in the single digits don’t make you want to book a tropical escape, then northern Wisconsin may be the perfect place for you to call home.

For the rest of the rest of us, the thought of luxuriating in a climate that doesn’t call for 17 layers of clothes is much more appealing.

Fortunately, there are warm weather vacation destinations that don’t require going into debt to visit.  For example, sunny San Diego, California, is providing visitors with multiple opportunities to get more bang for their buck this winter.

For starters, several hotels in the area are offering affordable winter package deals, including the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina, located on picturesque Mission Bay.  The property is home to a new collection of SeaWorld-inspired family suites. Each features two adjoining rooms with a connecting door, a kid-friendly wooden bunk bed with a full-sized mattress on the bottom, Shamu stuffed animals, shark-covered bean bag chairs, a 32-inch flat screen TV and eye-popping aquatic-themed artwork and wall décor.  You and your family can take advantage of package deals that include admission to the popular theme park, plus hotel accommodations for one low price.

You can also stretch your dollar while experiencing the region’s rich cultural offerings at half-price during San Diego Museum Month.  Throughout the month of February you can pick up a free San Diego Museum Month Pass at participating Macy’s locations.  The pass allows you to receive half-price admission for up to four guests per visit at 42 of San Diego’s museums, cultural attractions and historical sites, including the USS Midway Museum, Maritime Museum of San Diego, the New Children’s Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla, the Mingei International Museum, the Museum of Photographic Arts, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and San Diego Museum of Art, located in Balboa Park, which is often referred to as the “Smithsonian of the West.”
